On Tuesday, the Washington City Council met. On the agenda was a Mayoral proclamation designating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Mayor Millie Youngquist read the proclamation. “DVIP/RVAP has worked to end violence and abuse in intimate relationships for more than 45 years through the collaborative partnerships of advocates, volunteers, local municipalities, criminal justice, health and human services, and private citizens.” The Washington Police Department will be wearing purple ribbons on their lapels and have purple ribbons on their vehicles throughout the month of October. Purple Thursday on October 17 is a day where people wear purple to show their support for survivors of domestic violence.
