The Sigourney Savages earned another victory on the volleyball court Thursday against conference rival English Valleys. Sigourney took each of the first two sets by a score of 25-20, and while they dropped the third set 25-21, they would edge out English Valleys in the fourth 25-19 to take the match.
Josephine Moore had a double-double of 10 kills and 17 digs to lead the Savages, while fellow senior Reagan Clarahan had seven kills and two blocked shots at middle hitter.
Junior Addy Fineran joined Clarahan in the middle and had three blocks and three kills, while senior Dani Aller added a kill, 19 digs and three serving aces on the back row.
Senior Taylor Rozenboom handed out 19 assists, while fellow setter Bailey Gretter added five kills and 12 digs to the six assists she distributed as Sigourney moves to 8-2 and starts play in the South Iowa Cedar League East with a win.
The Lone Tree Lions were not as fortunate Thursday, falling at home to Louisa-Muscatine. Lone Tree responded to losing the first set 26-24 by winning the second frame by the same score, but Louisa-Muscatine shut the door on the Lions by winning the next two sets 25-17 and 25-22.
Avery Morarie’s nine kills led Lone Tree, while fellow senior Cate Sexton added five kills and three blocks in the middle. Senior Hayden Yoder dished out 20 assists while also collecting six digs on defense, but the Lions would still remain winless in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.
Lone Tree would also take part in the Springville Invitational this Saturday and drop all three of their matches in straight sets, losing to the host Orioles as well as to North Cedar and Monticello.
The Lions’ record now sits at 4-10. Lone Tree is back in action tonight in a triangular at Cedar Valley Christian, while Sigourney also plays this evening against PCM.
