The Sigourney Savages rolled to a victory on the volleyball court Tuesday night against Prairie City-Monroe. After eeking out a 26-24 win in the first set, Sigourney dropped the second 25-17. But the Savages would find a way to keep PCM at bay and won a pair of close final frames, each by a score of 26-24.

Josephine Moore had a double-double for Sigourney with a team-high 16 kills and 18 digs, while fellow senior McKinley Chittick added 10 kills, four digs and one blocked shot.

Senior middle hitter Reagan Clarahan had five kills and four blocks, while sophomore Bailey Gretter handed out 17 assists to go with four kills, 24 digs and a block. Fellow setter Taylor Rozenboom put up two serving aces, two kills and 12 digs to go with her 16 assists as the Savages improve to 9-3.

Sigourney was coming off a bitterly close loss to Belle Plaine on Monday. The Savages edged out the Plainswomen 25-22 in the opening set before losing a similarly close second frame 25-20.

Sigourney took the third set 25-15 and were on the cusp of winning the match, but Belle Plaine claimed a close fourth frame 25-23 and then won the tie-breaking fifth set 15-8 to get the victory.

Moore posted another double-double for the Savages with 12 kills and 18 digs, while Clarahan came up with 11 kills, three blocks and two aces and Chittick added nine kills and six digs.

Gretter again stuffed the stat sheet with six kills, 16 assists, 14 digs and two blocks. Rozenboom put up 16 assists as well and had 14 digs as the Savages dropped their first match of the season in the East division of the South Iowa Cedar League. Sigourney looks to bounce back against conference rival Iowa Valley tonight.
