The Snakes are streaking! The Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team posted their fourth straight victory Friday in a 33-7 home win over the Pleasantville Trojans. Defenses dictated the action in the first half with the contest scoreless after the first period. The Cobras got on the board halfway through the second with an eight yard touchdown run by Isaac Bruns to go up 6-0. In the final minute of the first half it was Ike Molyneux in the end zone on a seven yard run to double the lead at 12-0 going to the break. On the first play of the third, Bruns broke a 47-yarder to put SK up 19-0, and that’s where things stood going to the fourth. In the final period, Bruns found the end zone not once, but twice, once from four yards, the other from 25, to stretch the lead to 33-0 before the Trojans got a garbage time TD through the air. Cobra head coach Jared Jensen joined the KCII Radio Coaches Corner Saturday to talk about the keys for his team in victory.

Jensen said, “We focused the last three weeks on a ton of pass defense, knowing what we were going to be facing. Our guys stepped up. I thought our defensive line did a great job, swarming the quarterback, making him feel uncomfortable. Linebackers did a great job dropping back and sitting in their zones. We asked our defensive backs to things a little differently than we have before coverage-wise. I think our defense is really playing well. We had a lot of new additions to the offensive line this week and we have seen progress each week. They really took control of the game against Pleasantville. We were running downhill at them early. We were physical. Things were moving really fast for their defense. We went into half with a 12-0 lead. We got the ball after half and Bruns took it for a touchdown run to set the tone. The run game was where we need it to be.”

The Cobras won the total yards battle 338 to 232, including 329 to 31 on the ground, averaging seven yards per carry. SK won the turnover battle 2-0. Individual leaders included Bruns with 22 carries 210 yards and four touchdowns. Molyneux added a touchdown and 61 yards and 11 carries. The Cobras had seven tackles for loss as a team. Ashton Schwab and Brady Clark each had five tackles, Bruns and Carson O’Rourke each had an interception. Braylon Bingham led Pleasantville at 12 of 28 through the air for 201 yards, two picks and a touchdown. Sigourney-Keota is now 2-0 in district and 4-1 overall while the Trojans fall to 3-2, 1-1 in district. SK visits Pella Christian Friday.
