washingtondemons-2

The Washington Demons made homecoming Friday a happy one with a resounding 35-0 victory over Keokuk on the football field. After the defense forced a three-and-out, Washington set the tone on its second possession of the game, running the ball on nine out of 10 plays in a drive that ended in an eight-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Logan McDole.

The Demons would stop the Chiefs on fourth down and finish off their third drive of the night with another score, McDole finding the end zone again on a 19-yard run.

Washington would continue to put the clamps on Keokuk, with a fumble recovery late in the first half leading to a 17-yard TD pass from McDole to junior running back Kael Williams that made it a 21-0 game going into halftime.

After Mason Morgan intercepted a Keokuk pass at the beginning of the third quarter, the Demons struck again, with McDole hitting Morgan on a deep pass for a 45-yard score. Williams would add a touchdown run later in the period as Washington finished off a dominant win from there.

The Demon defense finished with five total takeaways and gave up only 130 yards in their first shutout of the season, blanking the team that came in leading the Southeast Conference in scoring and total yardage.

The Washington offense piled up over 230 rushing yards and more than 350 total yards of offense. In his first start in two weeks, McDole rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries while also completing six of 13 pass attempts for 118 yards and another two TDs.

Morgan caught two of those passes for a total of 62 yards, while Williams added 156 yards on 17 touches. Demon head coach Kelly Williams told KCII Sports that his team has come a long way since losing 47-0 to Keokuk last year.

“It’s all their hard work,” Williams said, “and it started up front on the offensive line and the defensive line. That’s just all of their hard work that they’ve done through the off-season.”

Washington not only stays unbeaten against Southeast Conference competition, but the Demons also win their Class 3A District 4 opener and improve to 4-1 overall.

Washington will try to get another conference and district win when they next hit the road this Friday to take on Mount Pleasant. You can hear Demon football on KCII this coming Friday night starting with pregame coverage at 7.
