The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves got back in the win column Friday night by taking down English Valleys 60-18 on the football field. WMU actually trailed 12-8 at the end of the first quarter but was unfazed, scoring two touchdowns to take a 22-12 lead into halftime and adding two more scores in the third quarter to pull away.

Senior quarterback Jake Edwards completed 14 out of 22 passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 60 yards and another two scores.

Junior Nicholas Sparrow caught two of those TD passes, while senior Lane Genkinger had eight receptions for 110 yards and a score while also putting up 72 yards and another touchdown on the ground.

Genkinger and fellow senior Max Edwards combined for 12 total tackles and five tackles for loss to lead the Winfield-Mount Union defense on a night when they surrendered a season low in points. The Wolves are now 2-1 in their district and 3-2 overall as they prepare to next host state-ranked Iowa Valley this Friday.
