The No. 8 in Class 3A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team was unstoppable Saturday, rolling through five matches to claim the championship at the South Tama Tournament. The Hawks didn’t drop a set on the day, beating Martensdale-St. Mary’s 21-12 and 21-9, Waterloo East 21-10 and 21-5, Belle Plaine 21-9 and 21-14, Lisbon 21-8 and 21-12 and the home Trojans 21-12 and 21-18.

Stat leaders on the day included Jovi Evans with 50 assists, 31 digs, 30 kills, 11 aces and two blocks. Avery Helmuth finished with 41 assists, Callie Huber had 22 kills and Harper Pacha had 21. Jeorgia Evans finished with 27 digs, Lanee Duwa and Dakota Mitchell each had 25. Brylee Gearhart and Katelyn Harland had two blocks each and Harland had nine aces and Huber six. The Golden Hawks have now won nine straight and stand at 21-5 on the season. They next host Tipton in a River Valley Conference match Thursday.
