The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves and Lone Tree Lions were unable to advance out of the pool-play stage of this year’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference Volleyball Tournament.

Winfield-Mount Union won their first set of the night Thursday 21-19 against Central Lee, but they would come up just short in the next two frames 25-23 and 15-10 to lose the match.

The Wolves also dropped the first set against Lone Tree 21-12 but would rally to win the second 21-11 before fending off the Lions 15-13 on their home floor in a tight tie-breaking frame. Unfortunately, WMU would have their night end by losing in straight sets to West Burlington, 21-10 and 21-8.

Junior Kellee Milks led Winfield-Mount Union with 13 kills for the night and also had 20 digs on defense. Freshman Kynlee Buffington had 12 kills and five blocked shots at middle hitter, while senior Josie Nelson came up with 10 kills, 37 digs and two serving aces.

All-conference senior libero Pacey Schlee also had a pair of aces and led the team with 43 digs, while outside hitter Quin Smith added six kills, eight digs and three blocks. Fellow junior Madisen Kellogg handed out 22 assists at setter to go with two kills, three aces and 10 digs as the Wolves’ record moves to 9-6.

In addition to the WMU defeat, Lone Tree also lost in straight sets to Central Lee and West Burlington. Middle hitter Cate Sexton led the Lions with a total of eight kills and five blocks for the evening while also picking up a pair of aces.

Fellow seniors Avery Morarie and Rylee Shield had six kills each, with Morarie recording five aces as well. Senior Madison Floyd added five kills and two blocks, while junior Alyson Ford blocked four shots.

Senior setter Hayden Yoder dished out 17 assists while also posting two blocks and three aces as Lone Tree falls to 5-14. The Lions are back in action tonight hosting an quadrangular, while Winfield-Mount Union also plays this evening against Columbus.
