The Columbus Wildcats topped the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves in a conference volleyball thriller last night. Columbus took the first set on the road 25-21 but would drop the second 25-20.

The Wildcats edged out Winfield-Mount Union in the third frame 27-25, but the Wolves got the slight upper hand in the fourth 25-21. The decisive fifth and final set would be just as close as the rest of the match, but the ‘Cats managed to just squeak by WMU for the 15-11 victory.

Winning the match means Columbus is now 4-2 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 9-14 overall. Meanwhile, Winfield-Mount Union falls to 9-7, including a 3-2 record in conference play. The Wolves next play Saturday in a tournament at New London, while the Wildcats are off until next week.
