The Washington Demons made the most of their annual home cross country meet Tuesday, with the boys winning the team competition at the Washington Invitational and the girls taking third as a team at Washington Golf & Country Club.

On their way to a third straight team victory, the Demons also had the top two times on the boys’ side, as senior Tyler Alderton won his third straight race with a time of 16 minutes 43 seconds and edged out junior teammate Andrew Rees by tenths of a second.

Washington junior Sawyer Tschantz was fourth overall in 17 minutes 17 seconds, while sophomore Ethan Hotchkiss took eighth in 17:49 and freshman Parker Tschantz finished ninth in 17:50. Junior Ivan Rangel and senior Jace Sanders also ran top-30 times for the Demons.

Junior Iris Dahl led the Washington girls and nearly won for a fourth straight race, posting a second-place time of 20:04. Lauren Horak clocked in at nearly 21 minutes flat to earn ninth, while fellow seniors Kendall Hinrichsen, Quincy Griffis and Alyvia Anderson were 12th, 15th and 17th, respectively.

Junior Angeline Anderson also cracked the top 20 for the Demons, while sophomore Emma Horak and senior Isabella Lujan had top-30 finishes.

The WACO Warriors also competed at Washington and got one of the best individual efforts of the afternoon from Jude Dykstra. The junior finished third overall in the boys’ race by crossing the finish line in 17:01.

WACO junior Gavin Slagel was 15th for the Warriors, while sophomore Brock Nebergall had the top time for the Lone Tree boys to finish 25th. Braden Zywiec paced the Highland boys in 22:40.

Warriors freshman Josie Dykstra had a good showing in the girls’ race by finishing 11th, while senior Vivian Zaruba took 24th to lead the Lions and senior Olivia Edwards came across in just under 31 minutes for the Huskies.
