For the second straight week, it’s a homecoming contest on the KCII3 Stream, as the Lone Tree Lions try to return to the win column by hosting district rival Calamus-Wheatland in the KCII Area Game of the Week.

Lone Tree will take the field 2-3 overall and 1-2 in district play after last week’s 52-8 defeat on the road at Edgewood-Colesburg. Maddox Jondle went 3/9 passing for only 14 yards, but did have 28 carries for 136 yards and Lone Tree’s only touchdown. Domonic Garcia hauled in three passes for eight yards. Brody Magruder led the defensive charge with seven tackles, one being for a loss. As a team, Lone Tree puts up 30.8 points-per-game and gives up 40.8. The Lions are 35/71 through the air for 697 yards while also tossing nine touchdowns and four interceptions. On the ground, Lone Tree has racked up 1,056 yards on 186 carries and has hit pay dirt 14 times. Defensively, the Lions have 166-and-a-half tackles, 15-and-a-half for loss, six sacks, five fumble recoveries, and three picks. Lone Tree has made 10 of their 16 PAT’s this season.

The Warriors of Calamus-Wheatland come into tonight’s matchup trying to play homecoming spoiler. They are 3-2 this season and are also 1-2 in district play after a big loss at home last week to Central City, 82-27. Brayden Svejda went 7/16 for 141 yards and two touchdowns, with one being to junior target Samuel Dascher from 62 yards away. Brady Koch toted the rock 14 times for 73 yards and two scores. As a team, Cal-Wheatland puts up 37 points-per-game and gives up 38.6. The Warriors are 34/66 through the air for 517 yards, including 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. On the ground, CW has tallied 1,128 yards on 187 carries and has 21 touchdowns. Defensively, the Warriors have 202-and-a-half tackles, 21 for loss, 10 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and six interceptions, one being returned to the house. On special teams, Calamus-Wheatland has made one field goal this season, and is 10/15 on PAT’s.

Lone Tree Head Coach Joe Donovan talked with KCII Sports earlier this week to preview tonight’s homecoming foe, Calamus-Wheatland. Donovan explained, “Tonight, it’s about shutting down the run. They are going to bang away for two yards, three yards. We just have to keep them away from the big play on the ground. We have to put them in situations they don’t want to be in (regarding down and distance). We have to keep our defense where we can play downhill and keep the sticks in front of us. If we can do that I think we’ll find ourselves successful.”

In the Varsity Bound era, Lone Tree owns the only win in the series between these two teams dating back to last season’s 48-6 victory on September 29th.
