waco-3

The WACO Warrior football team looks to take down a rival tonight when they welcome New London to Wayland. WACO is riding high as they prepare to take Roth Field, winners of three straight games to raise their record to 5-1, including a 2-1 mark in their eight-player district.

Quarterback Clayton Miller is shouldering a lot of the load for the Warrior offense, passing for 1,155 yards and 16 touchdowns, but fellow senior Louden Huisenga certainly does plenty of heavy lifting as well with nearly 950 yards from scrimmage and 17 total TDs.

Senior Isaac Rich has become WACO’s top pass-catching option with 389 yards receiving and nine scores, but senior Gage Samo is also capable of big plays with a team-high 23 catches for 366 yards and five touchdowns.

Junior Trey Edeker will look to build on his four-and-a-half sacks for the Warrior defense in last week’s win at Easton Valley, while Huisenga leads the team in total tackles and Miller has a team-high nine tackles for loss.

And you can’t forget about sophomore Hayden Shelman, always a dangerous player with the ball on special teams after returning five kickoffs and punts for TDs this season.

WACO will be meeting a New London team that ended its 0-4 start to the year last week by beating HLV 54-38. Junior London Franklin has been the Tigers’ top playmaker, leading the team in both rushing and receiving yards and scoring nine times. The Warriors will try for a fourth straight win in this series when they kick things off this evening at 7.
