The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves will face a tough test on the football field tonight when they host Iowa Valley. WMU got a 60-18 win at English Valleys last week to end a skid of back-to-back losses and improve their record to 3-2, including a 2-1 record in their district.

Winfield-Mount Union quarterback Jake Edwards continues to impress, passing for 736 yards and 10 touchdowns while running for 286 yards and seven TDs. Fellow senior Lane Genkinger leads the team in both rushing and receiving, piling up over 700 yards and 11 scores on offense.

Senior Cooper Buffington has been one of the defensive leaders for the Wolves with team highs of 34 total tackles and six tackles for loss, while both Genkinger and junior Max Edwards have each made five-and-a-half stops behind the line of scrimmage.

WMU will be facing an undefeated Iowa Valley team that is ranked eighth in the state in eight-player football, largely because the offense averages just under a whopping 69 points per game.

Sophomore QB Nolan Kriegel is closing in on a 1,000-yard season on the ground and has accounted for 28 total touchdowns for the Tigers, while six-foot-nine-inch senior Caleb Haack has been his favorite target throwing the ball with 15 catches for over 370 yards and eight TDs.

Winfield-Mount Union won last year’s meeting 76-14 and will likely need plenty of points again when they get things going this evening at 7 o’clock.
