The WACO Warriors took down rival New London 67-42 on their home football field Friday night in Wayland. WACO matched a pair of early touchdowns from New London with a 2-yard TD run by senior Lane Bachman and a three-yard run for a score by Louden Huisenga.
But after the first quarter ended tied at 14, the Warriors took control. Huisenga scored again on a 25-yard run and would reach the end zone on a 51-yard pass from fellow senior Clayton Miller, while a pair of touchdown runs by junior Trey Edeker stretched the lead to 40-14 heading into halftime.
New London scored twice to start the third quarter and get back within 12 points, but a TD pass from Miller to senior Gage Samo and a 39-yard scamper by Huisenga for another score pushed the lead back out to 54-28 heading into the final period, and WACO would add touchdown runs by Miller and sophomore Hayden Shelman over the final 12 minutes.
Huisenga had a huge night for the Warriors, rushing for 203 yards on 22 carries and catching four passes for another 80 yards to go with his four total TDs. Miller ran for 55 yards on seven attempts while also completing 13 of 21 passes for 212 yards.
Samo had 73 of those yards on five receptions, while junior lineman Adam Stafford had a huge night up front to lead the defense, racking up a whopping seven-and-a-half tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
With the win, WACO is now 6-1 overall and 3-1 in their eight-player district, securing their place in the state playoffs. The Warriors will finish up the regular season this coming Friday when they travel to take on English Valleys
