There can be only one. Tonight’s match in Iowa City between the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and Iowa City Regina Regals will decide the outright champion of the River Valley Conference in 2024. The Hawks enter play with a 22-5 overall record, winners of 10 straight, owning a 4-1 conference record. Mid-Prairie swept Tipton Thursday night. On the year as a team, the Hawks have 1,307 digs, third in Class 3A, 795 kills, fifth in 3A, 752 assists, fifth in 3A, 162 aces, eighth in 3A, 126 blocks and a .317 kill efficiency, second in 3A. Individual leaders are Dakota Mitchell with 345 digs, fifth in 3A and 38 aces, 10th in 3A, Jovi Evans with 381 assists and 197 kills and Callie Huber with 28 blocks and a .384 kill efficiency, 10th in 3A. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 8 in Class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Iowa City Regina is 15-10 this year, 4-1 in conference. They went 3-1 over the weekend at the Waterloo Columbus Tournament, with wins over Clear Lake, Don Bosco and North Tama before dropping a match to Marion. On the year as a team, the Regals have 1,237 digs, fourth in Class 2A, 726 kills, seventh in 2A, 714 assists, sixth in 2A, 129 aces, 87 blocks, and a .233 kill efficiency, ninth in 2A. Individual leaders include, Nora Wilhelm with 602 assists, fifth in 2A, Reese Naeve with 483 kills, most in 2A, .306 kill efficiency and 27 aces, Addison Bollier with 442 digs, second in 2A, and Adalee Klein with 28 blocks. The Regals are ranked No. 8 in Class 2A in the latest IGHSAU poll. Regina has won 23 of the last 29 in the series, the Hawks have won four of five, but the Regals beat Mid-Prairie in Wellman in four a year ago. Action starts tonight at 7:15p.m. in Iowa City.
