Two local cross country teams competed at the high level Steve Johnson Invitational Saturday on the campus of Wartburg College in Waverly.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls were sixth as a team in the varsity grey division with 182 points. Class 4A Pleasant Valley from the Quad Cities won the meet with 30 points. Top finish for the Golden Hawks came from Brooklyn Stutzman in 19th in 19:39. Other Golden Hawks included Kendal Landstrum 31st, Rachel Hostetler 40th, Tessa Brokaw 49th, Rebekah Wallington 64th, Dessa Poll 65th, Hannah Rodgers 108th, Kyrie Poll 124th, Ivy Reschly 131st, and Braelee Yoder 134th. Charlie Gall of Cedar Falls broke the tape in 18:11.

The Mid-Prairie boys were 13th in the Grey Division team standings with 294 points. Gilbert was the winner with 74. Top Hawk was Emmett Swartzentruber 18th in 16:13. Other Golden Hawk runners included Preston Yutzy 36th, Jayse Yoder 58th, Max Swartzentruber 93rd, Luke Brokaw 113th, Thomas Flynn 137th, Jesse Stultz 157th, Reece Waters 171st, Adrian Sanchez 185th, and Evan Reschly 187th. Manny Putz of Onalaska, Wisconsin was the winner in 14:51.

The Columbus Wildcat boys were sixth as a team in the Orange Division with 197 points. Davenport Central was the meet winner with 28. Ty Muniz led the way in sixth for the ‘Cats in 16:47. Other Columbus runners included Ryan Villa 40th, Cade Storm 46th, Elias Gonzalez Bravo 54th, Bryan Tlatenchi 57th, Drake Marin 64th, Juan Alcala 72nd, Alan Miranda 75th, Victor Tovar 88th, and Max Nunez 133rd. Zack Ryan of Davenport Central was the event winner in 16:19.

The Columbus girls were 14th as a team with 346 points. The Rochester Lourdes were meet champs with 71. Top Wildcat performance came from Iris Garza 15th in 20:53. She was followed by Isabel Rendon 44th, Maritza Tovar 100th, Frannie Sosa 102nd, and Naomi Allchin 114th. Scarlett Byrnes of Osage was the event winner in 18:51.
