During the month of October, the City of Washington’s Public Works crew will be conducting annual fire hydrant flushing and inspections. During this time, you may notice water on the streets in areas where a hydrant has been flushed. Residents may also notice brief periods of discolored water from faucets and taps when they first turned on. This is an ordinary effect of hydrant flushing. To ensure the best-tasting water, residents are encouraged to let their faucets run for a few seconds after turning them on to allow the discoloration to pass. Crews are starting on the north side of town and will continue working south until all hydrants are checked, which should be completed by November 1, 2024. If you have any questions, feel free to contact City Administrator Joe Gaa at 319-653-6584 Ext.134.
