The Mid-Prairie boys and girls cross country teams are back in Iowa City tonight for the 2024 River Valley Conference championships. The Golden Hawks have been off since October 5th when they ran on a Saturday at Wartburg. The Hawks were sixth in the girls team chase led by Brooklyn Stutzman in 19th. The boys were 13th overall with Emmett Swartzentruber 18th individually. At the RVC meet a season ago, the Golden Hawk girls locked up the team title, placing the entire varsity lineup inside the top 30 to earn All-Conference spots. The Mid-Prairie boys were third at this event as a team last year, led by Swartzentruber and his individual River Valley Championship. The Golden Hawk boys come into tonight’s race ranked No. 1 in Class 2A according to the latest poll from the Iowa Association of Track Coaches. The Mid-Prairie girls are second in 2A. The Mid-Prairie lineups have a total of five ranked runners. For the Golden Hawk girls, Stutzman is No. 10, Kendal Landstrum is No. 13 and Rachel Hostetler is No. 22 in 2A. For the boys, Swartzentruber is No. 5 and Preston Yutzy is No. 16.

The Golden Hawks will be joined tonight in Iowa City by the No. 16 in 2A Anamosa boys and their girls, Dyersville Beckman, Bellevue, Camanche, the No. 13 in 1A Cascade girls and their boys, Durant, Maquoketa, the No. 14 in 2A Monticello girls and their No. 17 boys, Northeast Goose Lake, Iowa City Regina, the No. 4 in 2A Tipton girls and their No. 11 boys, West Branch, West Liberty and Wilton. There are a total of 12 ranked runners in tonight’s field. Action starts tonight at 4:30p.m. in Iowa City.
