The Sigourney Savages picked up a victory in the quarterfinals of this year’s South Iowa Cedar League Volleyball Tournament, winning in four sets at home against Montezuma.
Sigourney edged out Montezuma in the first set 25-22, while the Braves would squeak by the Savages 25-23 in the second frame. But Sigourney would take control from there, winning each of the final two sets by a score of 25-11.
Senior Josephine Moore led the Savages with 14 kills, 23 digs and one blocked shot. Sophomore Bailey Gretter also had 14 kills to go with seven assists and 10 digs, while senior Reagan Clarahan also had a double-double with 10 kills, 11 digs, one block and one serving ace.
Senior setter Taylor Rozenboom handed out 30 assists to pair with a kill and 15 digs as Sigourney improves to 15-4. The Savages advance to the conference tournament semifinals tomorrow night in Belle Plaine, where they’ll face North Mahaska in a best-of-three-sets match.
Sigourney will be playing for the right take on either HLV or Belle Plaine in the finals. Belle Plaine advanced in the SICL Tournament by defeating the Keota Eagles in straight sets Monday, 25-8, 25-20 and 25-20.
That defeat drops Keota to 3-13 as the regular season comes to a close. The Eagles are now gearing up to start the playoffs by taking on Hillcrest Academy in the first round of the Class 1A Region 7 tournament.
