KCII News spoke with U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley about celebrating 50 years of the Juvenile Justice Law. Senator Grassley gave more information on the law. “I have been on the Judiciary Committee ever since I went into the US Senate in 1980, and I have been involved in almost every reauthorization of the bill. The whole purpose of the Act is to keep teenagers and young people out of the criminal justice system through prevention programs. Or through programs that if they do get into some trouble, programs that will help them not advance further down the criminal path.” In 2018 as U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman, Senator Grassley championed the first reauthorization of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act in nearly 16 years. Grassley, this year, introduced bipartisan legislation to strengthen and reauthorize the program through 2029.
