The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves are looking to punch their ticket to the state football playoffs tonight when they visit HLV in the regular-season finale.

WMU rolled past Mormon Trail 68-8 last week to improve to 4-3 and sits in third place in District 6, needing just one more win to earn an automatic spot in the eight-player postseason.

Quarterback Jake Edwards has been a steady hand for the Winfield-Mount Union offense in a season of highs and lows. The senior has passed for over 1,000 yards for a second straight year and has 14 touchdown throws to go with over 300 rushing yards and another nine TDs.

Senior Lane Genkinger has been his right-hand man, piling up over 1,100 yards from scrimmage and scoring 17 times to lead the team in both rushing and receiving.

Junior tight end Max Edwards is becoming a big-play weapon, collecting 20 receptions for over 300 yards and four touchdowns, but he’s also joined Genkinger and all-state senior Cooper Buffington in leading the team in total tackles and combining to make 20 tackles for loss.

The Wolves face an HLV team that is winless in District 6 and just 1-7 overall, but the Warriors have a proclivity for offense, with junior Keegan Gorsh leading the charge by throwing for over 1,100 yards and 19 TDs.

Sophomore teammate Cael Weisskopf also leads the team in both rushing and receiving and has scored 18 times to go with nearly 940 yards gained. WMU defeated HLV 66-0 last season and hopes for a repeat showing that leads into a playoff berth starting with kickoff from Victor this evening at 7.
