The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves secured their place in the eight-player football playoffs by taking down HLV 58-18 Friday. WMU raced out to a 30-6 lead by the time that the first quarter ended and never looked back, using a huge night on offense where they rolled up over 560 yards to get a road win.

Senior running back Lane Genkinger was a big part of that success, leading Winfield-Mount Union with 16 rushes for 253 yards and four touchdowns while also catching four passes for 93 yards and another TD.

Senior quarterback Jake Edwards completed 11 out of 15 pass attempts for 258 yards and three scores. Two of those touchdown tosses went to junior Max Edwards, who had six total receptions for 157 yards.

Genkinger added eight-and-a-half total tackles, four tackles for loss and an interception to lead the defense as the Wolves finish the regular season with a record of 5-3. WMU will now start the postseason by traveling to face Montezuma in the first round this coming Friday.
