The Sigourney Savages got the volleyball playoffs underway with a convincing straight-sets victory over Martensdale-St Marys in the first round of the Class 1A Region 1 tournament.

Sigourney won the first set 25-12, and while they would have to fend off Martensdale-St Marys in the second frame to win 25-20, the Savages cruised to a 25-9 victory in the third set.

The win has Sigourney now sitting at 16-5. The Savages now advance to the Region 1 quarterfinals Wednesday against Montezuma, which they will again host.
