The Washington Volunteer Fire Department successfully concluded its 2024 Fire Prevention Week, engaging approximately 934 youth through a series of interactive and educational activities. This year’s theme, “Fire Alarms: Make Them Work for You,” inspired youth in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades to create posters illustrating what the theme meant to them. The top poster from each grade will advance to the state competition. Throughout the week, volunteer firefighters set up several stations to educate and engage the youth on various fire safety practices. In addition, firefighters conducted tours at the fire station and visited local preschools upon request. A highlight of the week was Operation E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills In The Home) on Wednesday night, where firefighters drove around town. Families with an exit plan for their home turned on their porch lights to signal their preparedness, and many came out to wave at the fire trucks. The week concluded with an appearance by Marshall from Paw Patrol, at the Farmers Market, where Marshall, along with firefighters and police officers, handed out free books to the community.
