The Sigourney Savages are still standing in the high school volleyball playoffs after defeating Montezuma last night in the Class 1A Region 1 quarterfinals.
Sigourney won a tight first set at home 25-21 and edged out Montezuma again in the second frame 27-25. The Braves won the third set 25-22 to extend the match, but the Savages took the fourth set by the same score to finish off a victory.
With the win, Sigourney is now 17-5 and has won six of its last seven games. The Savages advance to a regional semifinal for a second straight season, this time against Ankeny Christian on the road Monday night.
