The Sigourney Savages are closing in on a trip to the Class 1A state volleyball tournament as they take on Ankeny Christian in the 1A Region 1 semifinals tonight. Sigourney’s pair of victories in the playoffs so far, both in straight sets, have them at 17-5 and winners of six of their last seven matches.
The Savages are led by their senior hitters, like Josephine Moore, who has team highs of 192 kills, 278 digs and 28 serving aces; and middle hitter Reagan Clarahan, a force at the net with 151 kills and 48 blocked shots.
Junior Addy Fineran has also been solid in the middle with 66 kills and 34 blocks, while sophomore Bailey Gretter is a do-it-all player for Sigourney with 86 kills, 172 assists, 215 digs, 10 blocks and 21 aces.
Senior setter Taylor Rozenboom has also handed out 326 assists to go with 130 digs and 14 aces to help the Savages reach a regional semifinal for a second straight season and a fourth straight year with at least 17 wins.
Sigourney will be taking on the top-ranked team in the state in Ankeny Christian this evening. The Eagles are 35-5 behind stars like senior Carley Craighead, who has 300 kills and 72 aces this season.
Senior setter Katie Quick can also do it all for Ankeny Christian with 169 kills, 749 assists, 240 digs, 22 blocks and a whopping 107 aces. First serve of the Class 1A Region 1 semifinal in Ankeny is set for 7 o’clock tonight.
