Some of the state’s eight-player leaders in a number of categories have been playing high school football in our backyards. That includes players like Lone Tree’s Maddox Jondle. The senior piled up 147 carries for the Lions during the regular season, tied for 16th-most in the state.

Winfield-Mount Union quarterback Jake Edwards has been one of the best passers among local eight-player teams. The senior has thrown for 1,663 yards, fifth-most in the state, and his 22 passing touchdowns are also top 10 in the state.

Wolves senior Lane Genkinger is fifth in the state with 821 receiving yards and eighth in the state with 41 receptions, pairing with Edwards to help WMU win five games this fall.

Louden Huisenga had been one of the leaders for the WACO Warriors on their way to eight wins this season. The senior has 22 rushing touchdowns, 12th-most in the state, and has the 17th-most yards on the ground by breaking the 1,000-yard mark last week.

Senior quarterback Clayton Miller is seventh in the state with just over 1,500 passing yards; tied for seventh with 23 touchdowns through the air; and ninth in all of eight-player football with 93 completions.

WACO senior Isaac Rich is tied with Genkinger for the seventh-most TD catches in the state with 11, while Lone Tree junior Domonic Garcia is top 20 in total receptions and yards.

The Warriors will look to continue their season tomorrow night when they face Don Bosco in the second round of the state eight-player playoffs.
