The Washington County Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday. On the agenda was a resolution relating to the road right-of-way along Fern Cliff Road in the southern part of the county. After a lengthy discussion about this property and right-of-way request in particular, the Supervisors approved the release of the right-of-way. Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius stated his concerns about future right-of-way requests, “There’s two things here that I know of. For release of right-of-way our standard practice has been, but it doesn’t mean it needs to continue, it’s been property that was acquired forty plus years ago or longer, we’ve just released that back to the adjoining land owner regardless of if it was the same person or not. If the right-of-way was acquired recently, as in the last ten years, that is typically needed to be purchased back by that land owner.” The Supervisors will continue the discussion in a future meeting on the standard for dealing with these requests in the future.
