The WACO Warriors will look to move another step down the road of the high school eight-player football playoffs when they hit the road tonight to take on Don Bosco of Gilbertville in a second-round matchup you can hear on KCII.
WACO is 8-1 and has won six games in a row, thanks largely to a dynamic offense that averages over 50 points and 350 yards per game. Senior running back Louden Huisenga has led the rushing attack with over 1,000 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground, but he also has nearly 400 yards and 4 TDs as a receiver as well.
Quarterback Clayton Miller has passed for just over 1,500 yards and 23 scores, with fellow senior Gage Samo hauling in a team-high 30 passes for nearly 480 yards and seven touchdowns and senior Isaac Rich piling up a whopping 11 TD catches and 27 total receptions for over 540 yards.
The Warrior defense is led in tackles by Huisenga and Miller, while juniors Trey Edeker and Adam Stafford have been causing havoc up front with a combined 27 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. Head coach Chad Edeker tells KCII Sports that they’re improving at getting stops to complement their electric offense.
“Every week, we got a little bit better on defense” Edeker says, “and every week it was someone else that was doing a little bit better. We had kids just flying to the ball.”
WACO will be taking on the third-ranked team in the state in Don Bosco. The Dons are undefeated and have been a superb rushing team, posting nearly 300 yards a game running the ball, but they’ve also been a dominant defensive side, allowing less than eight-and-a-half points per contest.
Don Bosco beat the Warriors 28-20 in a tight contest in the second round of last year’s state playoffs. You can catch all the action in this edition of WACO playoff football this evening on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII1 app, starting with pregame coverage at 6:30.
