The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team has reached the quarterfinal round of the Class 2A playoffs for the first time since 2008. On the way, they have piled up some impressive numbers that rank among the best 10 in the state in 17 different 2A team and individual categories.
As a group on offense, the Golden Hawks have 34 rushing scores this year, fourth in 2A and 46 total touchdowns, seventh. Mid-Prairie’s 3,185 total yards are the tenth highest total in 2A. On defense, The Hawks have nine interceptions, sixth most, seven fumble recoveries seventh most, 466 total tackles, the eighth highest total, 63 of those stops for loss, 10th most in 2A.
Individually, Hudson Ehrenfelt has run wild so far this season. The junior back has 26 rushing scores this year, second in 2A, 224 carries third most, 1,758 all-purpose yards fourth most in 2A, 1,315 on the ground, seventh most, with 28 total touchdowns the seventh highest total.
Senior quarterback Brady Weber orchestrates the air attack. He is ninth in the state in 2A with 1,616 yards throwing, his 61.6% completion percentage is also ninth, and his 117 total completions are the 10th highest total in 2A.
Junior linebacker Kaden Kos brings it on defense. He ranks second in the state in 2A with 94 tackles, fourth with 20 of those tackles for loss.
The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 9 in the final Class 2A poll from the Iowa High School Athletic Association. They travel to #2 Prairie City Monroe Friday for a 2A quarterfinal playoff matchup, and a chance to get to the UNI-Dome for the first time in school history.
