The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team shined under the Friday night lights this fall, now they have plenty of shiny new hardware for the trophy case. Twelve Hawks were honored this week by Class 2A District 5 with spots on All-District teams.
Nine Golden Hawks were first-team choices including senior quarterback Brady Weber. Weber ranked fourth in 2A with 139 pass completions, sixth in 2A with 1,751 yards through the air, on 218 attempts, seventh most in Iowa with the ninth best completion percentage in 2A at 63.8%.
Senior Blake Swart was a first-team defensive back. He piled up 30 tackles, two for loss and tied for the team lead with two picks. On offense, he led the district with 30 grabs for 366 yards as a receiver.
Senior Ace Peck was a first-team wide receiver. He caught 20 passes for 297 yards and a team leading three touchdowns, all top five numbers in district. Defensively he finished with 16 tackles, one for loss.
Senior Cobi Hershberger was a first-team wide receiver. He made 18 catches for 233 yards and two scores. On defense, he had 62 tackles, 11 for loss, two sacks and a pair of fumble recoveries.
Senior Landon Kos was a first-team selection on the offensive line. He was part of a Golden Hawk unit that cleared the way for the offense to put up 4,218 all-purpose yards and 46 team touchdowns, both eighth in 2A. One of those touchdowns was his receiving score in the playoffs. On defense, he finished with 22 tackles, three for loss and two sacks.
Senior Conner Wiles was a first-team utility choice on defense. He had 53 total tackles, seven stops for loss, a sack and two fumble recoveries, including a scoop and score, Mid-Prairie’s only defensive touchdown of the season.
Junior Hudson Ehrenfelt was a first-team running back. He was second in the state in 2A with 242 carries and 26 rushing touchdowns. His 1,827 all-purpose yards are fourth highest in 2A, his 28 total touchdowns are seventh most and his 1,365 rushing yards are seventh in 2A. On defense he had 31 tackles, one for loss and two interceptions, tied for the team lead.
Junior Kaden Kos was a first-team linebacker. His 159 tackles in this season led Class 2A, his 23 tackles for loss were third. Kos also added an interception. Offensively, he tied for the team lead with three receiving scores, on 14 total catches and 298 yards.
Sophomore Tommy Miller was a first-team offensive lineman. He was in the trenches for a Golden Hawk offense that gained 3,388 total yards on the year, ninth most in 2A, had 34 rushing scores, fifth most in 2A and 1,757 passing yards, seventh in 2A football. On defense, Miller added 25 tackles, three for loss and a sack.
Mid-Prairie had three honorable mention choices with seniors Quinn Callahan, Tatem Telfer and sophomore Kale Miller. Callahan was selected along the defensive line and Telfer was chosen at defensive utility. They were both part of a unit that piled up 522 total tackles, fifth most in 2A with 16 takeaways seventh most and 68 tackles for loss 10th most. They combined for 37 tackles, eight for loss and four sacks. Miller was selected as a kicker. He was 36 of 41 on PATs this year, hit a 39 yard field goal and had six touchbacks on kickoffs.
The 2024 Golden Hawks finished with a 7-4 overall record, ranked No. 9 in 2A in the final poll from the Iowa High School Athletic Association, were undefeated District 5 champions at 5-0, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2A playoffs for the first time since 2008.
