One person was injured after a vehicle crashed into a creek ditch head-on on Sunday. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, at 6:23 p.m. authorities were notified of a wreck at Highway 34 and 260th Street, near New London. It was determined that 20-year-old Darian Fort of Coralville was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima west on Highway 34 and lost control. The car entered the north ditch and traveled down an embankment, then it hit a tree stump on the passenger side and hit a creek ditch head-on. Airbags were deployed.
A passenger was transported by ambulance for serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Fort was uninjured. Both passengers were wearing seatbelts.
The vehicle was considered a total loss and Fort was cited for failure to maintain control. The Henry County EMS and New London Fire Department assisted the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
