The Sigourney Savages are as excited as any team about a new boys’ basketball season getting started. Sigourney went 13-9 last season and has virtually the entire roster back that responded to a 4-5 start last year by winning eight in a row.
The Savages will look to senior Isaac Bruns to be one of their leaders, a two-time all-conference selection who averaged a team-high 14 points per game while also averaging better than six-and-a-half rebounds, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot.
Solon Yates is also back after a breakout sophomore campaign where he scored 13 points per contest and made over 33 percent of his three-point shot attempts, while Ike Molyneux returns and looks for an encore to a debut season where he put up nearly 9.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, four assists and three steals a game.
Other key contributors like leading rebounder John Berg are back, and head coach Mitch Eslick tells KCII Sports that all the ingredients are in place to produce another winning formula.
“We’re excited,” Eslick says. “We’ve got a lot of talent coming back. It’s rare to have a team with no [graduated] seniors, and hopefully we can start to see some of that experience that we got last year pay dividends this year.”
Sigourney will begin the new boys’ basketball season December 3rd when they travel to face Keota. You can hear the Savages take on the Eagles in the KCII Area Game of the Week exclusively streaming on KCIIradio.com.
