The PLANT Washington Community Orchard and Gardens group and multiple volunteers planted a large portion of the community orchard on Sunday. For the group, this is the first step in truly realizing the project. KCII spoke with board member Kerrie Willis to learn more about the day, “The day was wonderful. We had a great Sunday. We spent a couple of hours planting the first part of the orchard. Which consisted of seventeen fruit trees.” Ten of the trees were donated by the Washington Tree Committee. The trees that were planted include Honey Crisp apple, Montmorency cherry, Parka pear, North Star cherry, Reliance peach, Bartlett pear, Granny Smith apple, Kinder Krisp apple, Contender peach, and Red Haven peach. The community garden and orchard is located at 803 S. Avenue D in Washington. You can find more information about the group and orchard and garden on the PLANT Washington Community Orchard and Gardens Facebook group.
