The Lone Tree Lions and Highland Huskies got their new girls’ wrestling seasons started at the Cardinal Duals Tournament last night in Eldon.
Lone Tree defeated Highland 18-12 when they matched up, but the Lions would drop their next two duals 60-6 to Knoxville and 36-24 to Van Buren County. Highland also fell 24-12 to Keokuk and lost 60-6 to Fort Madison.
Kayleigh Rundlett led Lone Tree by winning a pair of bouts by pin at 145 pounds, while Ashlynn Sojka also earned a victory by fall at 235. Maiya Singbeil got a win for Highland with a pin at 140 lbs, while sophomore Chloe Sexton was also a winner for the Huskies at 235 with a pin.
While Highland is off until a meet Thursday in Columbus Junction, Lone Tree wrestles again tonight at Sigourney-Keota.
