Welcome To Riverside

A committee is being formed and designs are being developed for a proposed community center in the City of Riverside. City Administrator Cole Smith explains that the project has been discussed for the past five years and at this time concepts are being designed by engineers and architects.

Smith says that while the project committee will likely be a small group, they will be hosting opportunities for the community at large to provide input, “We are looking to do more like a townhall type forum once we have designs in a place that would be beneficial for public critique. At this point, the design phase is pretty open so we want to be able to give and get solid feedback from the public. And we’ve done a lot of, you know, surveys and stuff like that in the past. At this point we’ve gotten a lot of good information and we want to be able to move forward with that, and then show the public that we’ve been investing our time into this and making sure that we give it the opportunity it deserves to be successful.”

Amenities are being considered including but not limited to an indoor walking track, exercise or gym room, and childcare space. Concepts will be presented to the public for review and input in early 2025. Smith says the preliminary estimated total cost for the new building is $8 million, and funding will be finalized which may include grant funding, fundraising, and a potential bond referendum. Smith explained that the city has $1.4 million reserved for the project and the goal is to not raise property taxes.

The City owns a lot on Galileo Drive, near the Highland Elementary School, where the facility would be built.
