A new girls’ wrestling season got rolling for local teams last night at the Sigourney-Keota Tournament. That included SK senior star Reanah Utterback beginning her season by winning the championship at 115 pounds. The defending state champion built on last year’s 40-0 record with three pins to open a new season.
Freshman teammate Karley Greiner had three pins and won a 14-7 decision to finish second at 170 lbs, while sophomore Sadie Clarahan would take third place at 120. Sophomore Kia Montgomery also took fifth at 130 and junior Jolie Wehr finished sixth at 125 for Sigourney-Keota.
Peggy Miller also began her senior season by winning a title at 145 lbs for Washington, pinning her first two opponents before winning a 1-0 decision in the final. Sophomore Rhya Wellington also finished fourth at 140 for the Demons.
Elyssa Graber started her season by winning the title at 105 for WACO, finishing the night undefeated with four pins and one victory by a 9-8 decision. Fellow senior Athena Flores won her first bout by pin at 115 but would lose the next two to finish fourth for the Warriors.
Sophomore Carlee Sexton won a 6-0 decision in the quarterfinals at 110 for Lone Tree but would get pinned in her next two bouts to finish fourth.
Senior Sammy Branson would take third at 235 for the Lions, while sophomore Olivia Magruder was fourth at 135 and seniors Alex Dautremont and Kayleigh Rundlett were fifth at 140 and 145, respectively.
