The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved a recount of votes from the November 5th election for the Iowa 1st Congressional District Race. Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer gives more information on the recount, “This is all a part of the process, it is required so that we can, so the recount can take place requested by Christina Bohannan, a recount of the votes in Washington County for the District 1 US House of Representatives Division. And so we are working on getting ready to coordinate everything, both Republicans and Democrats have each appointed someone, and now it’s up to those two people to appoint a third person that hopefully they can mutually agree on. If not, then it will be up to a judge. This same thing occurred four years ago, and it took us two full days to perform that recount.” Democrat Christina Bohannan announced Thursday that she was seeking a recount in all 20 counties for her race against incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who leads by 802 votes.
