KCII News spoke with U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley about the grant that Washington County was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, “The reason that’s good news is from two standpoints. Number one, I’m the only one in the congressional delegation that voted for the infrastructure bill. So I’m glad to be able to announce that this money is coming to Iowa as a result of my vote. And then don’t forget Iowa, with about 23% of our bridges being below standard, we’re 50th in the nation. This money for some of our bridges but obviously not all of our bridges, is pretty important because transportation in rural America is very important to our economy.” Washington County received $38,640,000 to remove and replace seven bridges in Washington, Hamilton, Buchanan, Jones, Cedar and Monroe counties.
