The Hillcrest Academy Raven girls basketball team scored a season opening win Friday at Moravia, rolling by the Mohawks 58-39. Hot shooting helped Hillcrest to a fast start that included 21 first quarter points, as the Raven lead stood at 13 after the first eight minutes. The advantage grew to 19 at half, 32-13. The two teams played even after the break at 26 points each. Hillcrest had an impressive 21 team steals and dished out 10 assists. Moravia won the rebounding battle 39-34.
The Ravens were hot from deep, connecting on eight total threes, including six for sharpshooting guard Claire Withrow who finished with a game high 24 points. Malia Yoder got to double figures with 17 points. She and Delaney Shaw each tracked down nine rebounds to lead the Ravens and Niva Helmuth had seven steals. Moravia got 15 points from Jaida Spencer. Hillcrest is now 1-0 and hosts Cedar Valley Christian tomorrow, the Mohawks are 0-1.
