U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley had this message for Iowa farmers at the end of harvest season, “Two things, I want to thank them for the hard work they do. I would be thanking my son Robin that farms in Butler County Iowa, and my grandson Pat that farms with him, and I’ve got an interest in that farming operation. Thank them for the work that they do, but there are 86,000 other family farmers in Iowa, and I thank them as well. But beyond thanking them, I want to remind them that the family farmers of this country are only two percent of the population, and they are producing food for the other 98%. All 86,000 of us in Iowa and all million and a half nationwide have to speak up and let people know where food comes from.” The Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report released by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service is released weekly April through November. Additionally, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship provides a weather summary each week during this time.
