Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union hosted a girls’ wrestling tournament Tuesday and had a good showing, finishing fifth in the team standings with a score of 96 points.
The Wildcats were led by a pair of runners-up, including sophomore Jada Moats, who finished second place at 170 pounds. Freshman Kalley Deese also took silver at 120.
Senior Maritza Tovar was third for Columbus/WMU at 105, as was junior Brynn Pogmore at 235. Freshman Jalynn Phillips also won bronze at 115, while classmate Jenelis Panchillo took fifth in that same weight class. Junior Bella Mills was sixth at 110, as was freshman Sophia Browning at 125.
Highland’s Chloe Sexton kept her record perfect and won the championship at 190 lbs, winning all three of her bouts, while freshman Maiya Singbeil was third at 135 for the Huskies.
WACO was led by Elyssa Graber winning the tournament title at 105 lbs, as the senior pinned all three of her opponents to continue her unbeaten start to the season.
