The Highland Huskies hosted the Hillcrest Academy Ravens in a Southeast Iowa Superconference basketball doubleheader Tuesday and each school left with a victory. A battle of unbeatens led off the night in the girls contest, with the Huskies beating the Ravens 60-40. Highland led 12-9 after one quarter and 29-21 at half. A 15-6 run for the Huskies in the third put the game out of reach. Highland won the glass by four, forced 36 Hillcrest turnovers, had 26 steals, and 16 assists. Makenzie Davis led the Huskies with a 12 point 10 rebound double double. Kamryn Fink had 19 points and 15 for Hailey Brun. Raven leaders included Claire Withrow with 16 points and Delaney Shaw with 13 boards. Highland is now 4-0 while Hillcrest falls to 2-1.
In the nightcap, Hillcrest doubled up Highland 78-39. It was a fast start for the Ravens, Hillcrest led 20-10 after one and 41-21 at half. The lead continued to expand with a 20-9 Raven run that lasted the full third quarter, and Hillcrest closed it outscoring the Huskies 17-9 in the fourth. The Ravens shot 53% from the floor, won rebounding by 13, had 16 assists, 21 steals and forced 29 turnovers. Kale Bailey led Hillcrest with 16 points, Seth Ours had 14 and Mason Bender 13. Logan McFarland led the Huskies with eight points. The Ravens are 2-0 on the year and host Columbus tonight. Highland is at Columbus Tuesday.
