Iowa’s farmers who planted cover crops this fall can sign up for a discount program. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced the sign-up for the state’s Crop Insurance Discount Program. Through this program, farmers and landowners can earn $5 per acre as a discount on spring crop insurance premiums. Naig said in a statement, “As cover crop usage in Iowa continues to grow in popularity, the Crop Insurance Discount Program remains effective at encouraging the use of this proven water quality practice.”

Farmers have through January 24, 2025 to enroll by visiting https://apply.cleanwateriowa.org/ or contact their crop insurance agent. It is the eighth year for this program and to date, nearly 2,000 farmers have enrolled more than 1.2 million acres of cover crops.
