The mats roll-out and take over Tim Grady Gymnasium tonight as the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling team is in action for their only duals in Wellman this season, hosting Anamosa, Durant and Wilton in a River Valley Conference quad. The Hawks have a 3-0 dual record this year after getting a sweep at Cascade a week ago over Camanche, Northeast Goose Lake and the home Cougars. Six Golden Hawks were unbeaten on the trip including Gabby Gingerich, Ruby Miller, Ashlee Farrier, Mardie Berry, Cassie Trimpe and Ellie Callahan. Mid-Prairie has also been busy on the tournament scene this year, winning the team title at Wilton and finishing second at West Liberty. Farrier has won three individual tournament titles with Austyn Sexton, Berry and Callahan each scoring one. Sexton has the team lead with 14 victories and Farrier is unbeaten at 13-0. Trimpe and Gingerich both have double digit wins while Detina Moyle, Miller, Maya Banuelos, Emmerson Moore, Layken Lee, Berry and Callahan are all .500 or better. The Hawks have two ranked wrestlers in their lineup according to IAwrestle.com with Farrier No. 6 in Class 1A at 130lbs and Callahan No. 10 at 170. Gingerich and Berry spoke recently on the KCII PM Sports Page about the support the team gives one another.

Gingerich and Berry said, “We have a really supportive team and everyone is always cheering for each other. It’s great to see us all lined up supporting each other. We have a good lineup, but it takes every single person. We have a lot of freshmen in our lineup, first time wrestlers too, and I think it’s awesome to see how good we have been doing in duals and tournaments with such new wrestlers.”

Wilton is also 3-0 in duals this season, sweeping Durant, Tipton and West Branch last week. Audra Coss leads at 110lbs with a 14-2 record. Audrey Cummings at 100lbs, Josslyn Holladay at 120 and Kaydence Boorn at 135 all have 10 wins or more. The Beavers have four ranked wrestlers in their lineup with Cummings No. 10, Natalie Hartman No. 12 at 105, Coss No. 6 and Boorn No. 3. The Golden Hawks beat the Beavers last year 42-30.

Durant is 4-1 in duals this season with wins over Lisbon, Lone Tree, Tipton and West Branch. Wildcat leader is Jocelynn Richardson with a 19-4 record at 130lbs. Other ‘Cats with double digit wins include Alivia Barnard at 110 and Ava Streeter at 125. Streeter is the only ranked Wildcat, standing at No. 6 in Class 1A at 125.

Anamosa is 4-4 on the dual season with wins over Central Elkader, Tripoli, Bellevue and Maquoketa. Hadley Frater at 145 leads the way with a 15-4 record.
