The Washington Demons secured a pair of dual wins on their home wrestling mat last night. That included defeating conference rival Keokuk 69-12, with the Demons not dropping a bout after they took an 18-12 lead. Washington also knocked off Sigourney-Keota 60-24, racing out to a 30-0 lead on the team scoreboard.
The Demons were led by Aaron Boone, who continued his undefeated start to his season by winning twice by fall at 138 pounds. Fellow senior Jude Carter also won twice by pin at 144, as did sophomores Mark Chenoweth at 165, Blaine Rees at 175 and Greyson Hartman at 215.
Freshman Jonathan Macias added a 7-6 victory by decision at 157 lbs as Washington improves to 1-1 in the Southeast Conference and 11-3 overall in duals. The Demon ladies fell 19-18 to Keokuk but got victories by pin from senior Peggy Miller and sophomore Rhya Wellington.
Sigourney-Keota would bounce back to defeat Keokuk 60-18. Junior Jacob Libe won twice on the night by fall at 157 lbs, while SK also got pins to win by senior Dawson Meyer at 144; senior Brady Clark at 150; junior Wells Clark at 165; senior Ashton Schwab at 175; senior Jayden Thompson at 190; senior Zach Guffey at 215; and junior Owen Menke at 285.
Sigourney-Keota will next be in action at Iowa City Regina, while the Washington girls also wrestle Saturday at Central DeWitt. Meanwhile, the Demon boys begin competition at the Fort Madison Invitational later today.
