The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling team hosted a River Valley Conference quadrangular on Senior Night December 16th against Wilton, Anamosa and Durant at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Golden Hawks beat the Wildcats 66-9, but fell to the Beavers and the Blue Raiders by matching 42-36 scores.

It was a big night for the Golden Hawk senior duo of Ashlee Farrier and Gabby Gingerich, who combined to go 6-0 in front of the home crowd, with each win by fall. The two spoke after the meet with KCII Sports about the night

Farrier said, “(The Senior Night ceremony) was pretty fun. I have wrestled all four years of high school, so every year I have said to my parents, ‘oh hey, four years, three years, two years’ so this year I got to be like ‘oh hey, that’s us, we have to go over there’. It was kind of sad but exciting. I like wrestling at home. It’s your area. You can warm-up with your team in your space. Everybody you know gets to come, and that’s always super exciting. I love seeing my friends when I’m wrestling! (In the toughest match, against Anamosa) It was pretty typical for me. I like to do that move, and I have committed to it more this year.”

Gingerich continued, “(The Senior Night ceremony) was definitely a very special moment! I loved being able to walk out with my parents. Definitely a proud moment. Almost like a symbol of completion, and it just felt really good to be alongside Ashlee (Farrier) too out there. There’s a lot more comfort when you are at home. Friends and family come out, it’s great! (In the toughest match, against Anamosa) I was giving up some weight, but I was able to keep it under control. In the pinning combination, I had to hold her there for a little bit longer than I’m used to, but I settled in. The team did really well tonight. A couple of girls got their first wins tonight and that was super fun to see!”

Cassie Trimpe also went 3-0 with two pins. Hawks with 2-1 nights included Ruby Miller, Austyn Sexton, Layken Lee, and Ellie Callahan. Following the event, the Golden Hawks stood with a 4-2 dual record. Gingerich and Farrier were honored with a Senior Night ceremony between duals.
