As part of last weekend’s Regal Wrestling Invitational at Regina Catholic High School in Iowa City, the WACO Warriors again walked away with three individual champions.
That trio included Louden Huisenga, who remained undefeated in his senior season by winning by fall in the quarterfinals at 190 pounds and then securing a technical knockout in the semis before claiming a 15-3 major decision in the finals.
Gage Samo was a winner for WACO as well, taking the crown at 120 lbs with a pair of pins and the slimmest of victories in the final, a 1-0 decision.
Freshman Ian Maize also brought home a title for the Warriors at 106 lbs, pinning his first two opponents before winning an 8-4 decision in the championship bout. Sophomore Braxton Stauffer took eighth at 165 for WACO, which ended up 10th in the team standings.
Sigourney-Keota also competed at Iowa City Regina and was led by Brady Clark, who finished second at 150 lbs after pinning his first two opponents but getting pinned in turn in the finals.
Fellow senior Owen Menke reached the title bout at 285 after back-to-back pins but was also pinned in the championship round to finish with runner-up status.
Senior Jayden Thompson would finish fourth at 190 lbs for SK, while freshman Paxton Wehr was fifth at 113, as was sophomore Jacob Libe at 157. A pair of Sigourney-Keota seniors took sixth in their respective weight classes-Ashton Schwab at 175 and Zach Guffey at 215.
SK would go on to finish seventh as a team behind a trio of individual eighth-place finishers, including junior Gavin Khali at 132 and seniors Dylan Weber and Dawson Meyer at 138 and 144, respectively.
Lone Tree was led by a fourth-place finish from sophomore Cole Walmsley at 113 lbs, while Lions freshman Trenton McKean took eighth at 106.
