Drought conditions have lessened in Iowa over December. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, as of December 17th, nearly 21-percent of Iowa did not have any drought conditions. That is an increase from 7.2-percent the previous week. According to the recent data, 1.3-percent of Iowa is in severe drought, 61.15-percent is in moderate drought, and 79.43-percent is abnormally dry. Most of Washington County is abnormally dry, as are Henry and Louisa counties. Most of Johnson and Iowa counties are abnormally dry with moderate drought in the northern areas. Most of Keokuk County and all of Jefferson County are not experiencing drought conditions. At the same time last year 35 percent of Iowa was in extreme drought and nearly 66 percent was in severe drought.
