The Washington City Council heard from Eagle Point Solar at their most recent meeting. There have been discussions about the City using solar panels on City Hall and fire station, as well as the Washington Public Library, and maintenance shop. In a memo from City Administrator Joe Gaa, discussion with Eagle Point began in June, and at the October 1st council meeting a draft agreement was reviewed. The agreement was looked at by the City attorney and a new draft was presented at the December 17th meeting. According to the agreement, the City would not own the solar panels, but there would be an opportunity to purchase them after a period of seven years. The City would purchase the solar energy that the panels produce to reduce the amount of electricity purchased from Alliant Energy, the city’s current energy provider. The council approved the agreement unanimously, and the process of getting the panels installed will depend on weather conditions and availability of materials.
